چکیده

Soil gravel content affects many soil physical properties, as well as crop yield. Little is known regarding the influence of soil gravel content on growth and nutrient uptake of durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.). The accumulation of nitrogen and phosphorous during the vegetative and reproductive periods and the contribution of pre-anthesis assimilates to grain N and P content have been evaluated in two durum wheat varieties grown on soils with 0, 10, 20 and 30% gravel content. The two varieties showed similar behaviour and the increase of soil gravel decreased plant biomass during the entire biological cycle. Nitrogen and P concentration of all plant parts was not affected by soil gravel content, while N and P content was greatly reduced, owing to the effect on dry matter yield. Post-anthesis accumulation and remobilization of N and P were greatly reduced: the decrease from gravel-free soil to 30% gravel content was about 41 kg N ha and 4 kg P ha for the former and 14 kg N ha and 2 kg P ha for the latter. The differences in growth rate were attributed to differences in development of the root system due to the restricted soil volume.

Foliar-applied Nitrogen Fertilizers in Spring Wheat Production

C admium (Cd) is a nonessential heavy metal that can cause kidney problems. Diet is the main source of Cd for nonsmokers, with cereal products, including pasta, accounting for up to 20% of the daily intake of Cd. The current official standard for maximum level of Cd in durum wheat grain as stated by the Codex Alimentarius Commission is 0.2 ppm. The European Union has adopted this level as the m...

Understanding the nitrogen remobilization by plant, in order to obtain cultivars with higher quality, has specific importance in plant physiology. In this experiment, a bread and a durum wheat cultivar, were treated with different rates and times of nitrogen application, by using split factorial on the basis of randomized complete block design with three replications at Shiraz region during 200...

More aboveground biomass, phosphorus accumulation and remobilization contributed to high productivity of intercropping wheat

Intercropping often results in increasing production than sole per unit land area, but theunderlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Plants showed different physiologicalcharacteristics in intercropping and sole. However, less information was shown the relationshipsbetween plant aboveground biomass (AB), phosphorus accumulation (PB) and remobilizationand the yield advantage. Here, field exper...

This research was conducted to evaluate the trend of cadmium accumulation in wheat tissue and cultivated soil affected conventional cropping systems and different growth stage via split plot experiment based on randomized complete block design with three replications during 2014-2015 seasonal year. The main factor included two cropping systems (wheat-rice, fallow-wheat) and growth stage at thre...
